James C. Maxwell 1831-79
Scottish mathematician and theoretical physicist. His most significant achievement was formulating a set of equations that for the first time expressed the basic laws of electricity and magnetism in a unified fashion. Maxwell is also credited with creating the first colour photograph using red, green, and blue filters. When projected onto a screen with three different projectors, each equipped with the same colour filter used to take its image, a full colour image was formed.
