Security is about more than just having a good firewall. It's also important to know what kinds of traffic are flowing in and out of your network. These days, most malware spreads, not by some kind of virus attached to an email message, but through "social engineering" - enticing your users to click a link to a Web site that will attempt to install malware, or to "install a codec" in order to watch a video. And the link may not come in via email at all - it may result from an employee visiting a social media site from their business computer.

Applications such as the AppSense Environment Management Suite can help you lock down workstation security by granting elevated permissions to a specific application without having to give the user local admin rights, and can prevent any process (including malware installation routines) from running if it was not installed by a "trusted installer," such as a Domain Administrator.
