Dian Fossey 1932-85

American ethologist who completed an extended study of several gorilla groups. She observed them daily for years in the mountain forests of Rwanda, initially encouraged to work there by famous paleontologist Louis Leakey. Fossey is protrayed by Sigourney Weaver in the movie "Gorillas in the Mist."
