Arthur C. Clarke

Sir Arthur C. Clarke 1917-2008

British inventor and prolific science-fiction author, most famous for his novel 2001: A Space Odyssey.

During the Second World War, he served in the Royal Air Force as a radar specialist and was involved in the early warning radar defense system which contributed to the RAF's success during the Battle of Britain. After the war, he obtained a first class degree in mathematics and physics at King's College London. His most important contribution may be the idea that geostationary satellites would be ideal telecommunications relays. He first proposed this in a paper privately circulated among the core technical members of the BIS in 1945.

Quote: "Human judges can show mercy. But against the laws of nature, there is no appeal."

One of the ideas involved in one of those "laws of nature" - the concept of entropy - is that nature tends from order to disorder in isolated systems. We see this happen all the time in business networks, too, because old stuff never seems to be thrown away - instead, the new stuff just gets added to it, increasing complexity and the likelihood of compatibility issues. Moose Views is designed to bring you information and tips on overcoming entropy and maintaining a trouble-free network.
