Alfred Nobel 1833-96

Swedish chemist, engineer, innovator, armaments manufacturer and the inventor of dynamite. He left much of his wealth to establish the Nobel Prize which honors men and women for outstanding achievements in physics, chemistry, medicine, literature, and for work in peace. A common legend states that Nobel decided against a prize in mathematics because a woman rejected him for a famous mathematician. There is no historical evidence to support the story, and Nobel was never married.
